As a backbone of healthcare in the region, MEDIC doesn’t just provide blood—it ensures that patients across these communities can receive blood when they need it the most. Whether it’s for surgeries, cancer treatments, or emergencies, MEDIC is a critical lifeline for hospitals striving to maintain the health and well-being of their communities.

In 2022, MEDIC Regional Blood Center took a step forward in its commitment to emergency preparedness by joining the Blood Emergency Readiness Corps (BERC). This national initiative ensures that blood centers are ready to respond to mass transfusion emergencies—whether it's a mass casualty event, natural disaster, or any other large-scale crisis. As part of BERC, blood centers like MEDIC rotate on-call status, ensuring a steady supply of blood ready for emergencies. After a disaster, most blood centers cannot meet an immediate demand BERC helps fill this gap, creating a network of blood providers that can quickly mobilize to deliver life-saving supplies where they’re needed most.
