At Connecting Knox, our mission is simple: to connect residents with the people, places, and organizations that shape our city. Today, we’re spotlighting two that enrich Knoxville’s cultural landscape—the Knoxville Museum of Art and The Knoxville History Project.
From preserving local history to celebrating regional and global art, these institutions bring depth, creativity, and connection to our community. Whether you're a history buff, an art lover, or simply curious about Knoxville’s story, Connecting Knox makes it easy to discover the groups and places that matter most to you.
Knoxville Museum of Art
At the heart of Knoxville’s cultural scene, the Knoxville Museum of Art (KMA) honors the region’s creative spirit while connecting it to the global art conversation. The museum is a dynamic space where East Tennessee’s stories are told through visual expression—celebrating both local voices and broader artistic movements.
Current exhibitions include Electricity for All, Higher Ground: A Century of the Visual Arts in East Tennessee, Seeds of Regionalism, The Clauss Legacy: Early Modernism in the South, and the East Tennessee Regional Student Art Exhibition 2025. KMA showcases the depth and diversity of East Tennessee’s artistic story—past, present, and future.

The Knoxville History Project
The Knoxville History Project (KHP) is dedicated to uncovering and sharing the stories that shape Knoxville and its surrounding communities across Knox County.
From the legacy of Charles McGhee Tyson—the namesake of Knoxville’s airport—to the city’s brewing history, historic architecture, and pivotal role in the women’s suffrage movement, KHP brings the past to life. Their online History Portal is a treasure trove for anyone curious about our scruffy city’s roots.
Whether you're a lifelong local or a first-time visitor, KHP offers a range of ways to connect—through walking tours, volunteer opportunities, and in-depth resources. Connecting Knox is proud to help you discover and engage with Knoxville’s vibrant history.
